Allergies, Hills and Application Madness!
I recently went to an allergist to identify what substance appears to be provoking a rather dangerous allergic reaction in me, when consumed! After much poking and prodding, the test results came back and were a little scary! My blood test shows that I am mildly allergic to onions, (I suspect that this also applies to leeks, challots and garlic, though leeks seem to be ok.) This in itself is a bit concerning, due to the sheer volume of things that I cook, which contain onion and or garlic! After the blood test came the joy of the skin test. For those of you who don't know how these things work, a nurse drops various samples of things that they think you might be allergic to on to your arm. She then proceeds to make tiny pin-pricks in your arm, where the samples have been left. Then, after 15 mins, the size of the resulting lump is measured, to gauge how allergic you are. 2mm is normal; 5mm is a mild allergy and so on. I didn't get any readings below 4mm, making me mildly allergic to cats, trees, weeds and ducks,(4.5mm), a little allergic to dogs and flowers (5mm), quite allergic to grass (8mm) and substantially allergic to dust mites, (the nurse had to put down the template, go to the other room and fetch a ruler to measure the 18mm monster lump that formed!)
The down-side obviously is the danger of allergies, and the increased need to tidy and clean in my room. The up-side is a letter from my Dr, that says I'm not allowed to do the hoovering :D
Of course, when I discovered the things that I was allergic to, I made sure that I was well away from them... and started by going for a long walk with Alice and having a picnic on the errr.... ummmmm.... grass. Which was lovely! The next weekend the Blue Monki and his girlfriend came to stay, and we walked to Kinder Low. We took a lot of pictures, which I intend to post as soon as time allows!
