LaTeX

Hey folks. I've recently gone back to using LaTeX after a long period of not needing to. I've tried A LOT of different editors, and felt that I should post this one.

It is by far the best choice for a LaTeX editor that I've tried for the Windows OS, not just because of the functionality and ease of use, but also because it is one of the free ones, and doesn't sting you with annoying pop-ups ala WinEdt, (which is very good once registered.)

So here it is. Ladies and Gentlemen, the Bob Oates award for the best LaTeX editor is....

TeXnicCenter - see http://www.texniccenter.org/ remember that you'll need to install MikTeX to make it work though. I had a lot of problems with the binaries from the MikTeX website, and I suspect that they are corrupted. If you do download them - get them off sourceforge, not he MikTeX website. They seem to be ok.

Good Day - Bad Day

Yesterday both of my work computers died, I had a nightmarish journey home, and wasted about half an hour trying to remember the password to use my old home computer!

Posts will be few and far between for a while, as I have A LOT to do.

In better news, I went out with my friends from work and a couple of my friends who I've known since we were all 2 on Friday. The event was celebrating the day of my birth! I had a really good time, and everyone else seemed to enjoy themselves too. My work colleagues clubbed together and bought me some stunt kites, because I'd got so excited about seeing someone flying one, (I used to have one when I was little and really enjoyed it!) My housemates bought me a genuine binary watch!! I love it and I can already use it better than an analog one!
Many thanks to all!

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year to all!

I know that this is a bit late, but I've been kind of busy!

Christmas by the Pacific in Oz was great! I have a couple of photos that I'll put up later.

Between Christmas and New Year I caught three sharks, (2 shovel nosed sharks and 1 Wobbegong.) I put the shovel nosed sharks back, but we ate the Wobbegong, which was very tasty.

New Year was quite low key, I spent it with my sister, her boyfriend and their neighbours, drinking wine outside.

In the new year I went to Australia Zoo. It was very impressive and I was lucky enough to see Terri Irwin doing a demonstration of the habits of salt-water crocodiles. I cannot emphasise enough how cute koalas are! Pictures do not do them justice! They really are beautiful. One thing that did amuse me, was seeing a large exhibit with a "real live red fox"!! I even heard some tourists, (I think from Sydney) talking about how dangerous they were! I see wild foxes in Nottingham pretty much every evening, so hearing this coming from people who live in the same country as what seems to be 90% of the world's poisonous animals seemed a bit weird!

I also went to Sea World, which is definitely worth a trip. They have a very impressive shark collection and you can observe them from above and below the water. It's worth seeing that just to realise how close a huge shark can get to you without being that visible above the waves. I recommend that you do this AFTER any beach parts of your holiday!

Now I'm back in the UK things are going pretty well. I need to get a lot of work done this week, but it is a realistic target. I've taken advantage of my jet lag, (I naturally wake up at 6 now) to go for early morning runs before work. It seems to aid my concentration during the day and is quite pleasant, so I'll stick at it for as long as I can! I'm even going to the gym with one of my friends on Friday, so we can take advantage of the FANTASTIC very, very cheap leisure center that's down the road from us.

Anyway - I hear the huge pile of papers on my desk calling my name, so I must be off!
