Week of Taking Things Easy

Skeggy on Sunday was a lot of fun. We played on the beach and built a mighty castle!

This last week I've been pottering with some maths to help me get a handle on the performance of the DCA. It's looking ever more complex, but some interesting patterns are emerging.

I've also been scanning Jools' thesis, which is good for me, as I get to learn of its secrets! But also good for her as I'm hitting the occaisional typo!

Friday was a good night, as I went to a local rock bar and to the rock night at Nottingham Trent. I haven't listened to some good rock for a really long time and I really enjoyed myself.

This week I'm going to continue pottering - though I really need to finish tidying code and plan my next paper!

Paper-tastic

I've been working very hard for the last month or so on getting my first ever academic paper done. I've had to write a great deal of code for my little robot and carry out lots of experiments, but despite the vast amount of coding I did in the beginning, it still ended up being a rush to the finish. The sum total of all that work was just 12 pages of text!

Jools was awesome and despite writing thesis, managed to still provide an entire section, a paragraph for the introduction, bibtexed most of the references & proof read it multiple times. Both my supervisors proof read it, and Jools' supervisor did so too. That's a lot of co-authors, but I'm happy with the outcome.

I lost all of my Easter holiday as I had to work through it - so this week I'm going to take things easy and just read Jools' thesis and tidy up the horrible code that was written at the last minute.

Tonight I'm going to a little party, and tomorrow I'm off on a day trip to Skegness!!!

The shine was rather taken off today though, as the bloody BBC moved Dr Who half an hour early so I missed it :( I'll have to watch the repeat tomorrow if I get back in time.

Anyway - I'm off to make myself beautiful!
